ADO vs Cikgu Mala

LABIS: The nomination for the Tenang state by-election opened at 9am today at the Labis district council, here.

The nomination process takes place for an hour followed by another hour of objection period after which the returning officer Md Asri Amir will declare the list of candidates for the Jan 30 polls.


Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin led the Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters to accompany the BN’s candidate, Mohd Azahar Ibrahim, to the nomination centre.


With them were Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman, MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek, MIC president G Palanivel and other BN component leaders.


Azahar, 39, is the former Rengit assistant land administrator in Batu Pahat.
PAS has named its Labis Muslimat chief and former teacher Normala Sudirman as the candidate.


PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, secretary-general Nasarudin Md Isa and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail were among opposition leaders at the nomination centre.


The by-election is called following the death of Sulaiman Taha of BN on Dec 17.


In the 2008 general election, Sulaiman defeated PAS’s Md Saim Siran with a 2,492-vote majority.
